It’s been more than three years since Anna’s last exhibition in Landhuis Bloemhof. Her art has evolved and landhuis Bloemhof describes it as ‘fresh and different’. Self taught artist Anna Oltheten (1951) is born in the Netherlands. After studying art history at the University of Leiden, she moves to Curaçao at the age of 22. She promises herself to start painting. First she experiments with watercolor and acrylic paint, but she soon discovers oil paint as her medium.
Her first exhibition takes place in 1988 and Anna has since been exhibiting her work on a regular basis. Anna lives with her partner Carl at Grote Berg and spends most of her days working in her studio.
Anna characterizes herself as sensitive, accepting whatever feeling she experiences. When painting, she never starts out with a definitive plan but rather lets herself be guided by her unfailing sensitivity. Her paintings are like children to her. The exhibition in Landhuis Bloemhof features 31 paintings in different sizes, created between 2013 and 2015. Fragile creatures in dreamlike surroundings are enacting emotions like love, courage and fear. Anna shows us a range of emotions in a strictly pure fashion, the only way she can.
