Back in 1995 Louis La Rooy participated in a group exhibition showing contemporary Dutch Glass Art in the Curaçao Museum. At that time he was part of a fairly large group of well known Dutch artists.
His next appearance in the Curaçao art world happened in 2010, with a solo in Landhuis Bloemhof’s art gallery ‘Glass Sculptures’ which was extremely well received.
His previous art show in Landhuis Bloemhof took place in April 2013 and was opened by Karin Verputten, graphic designer of the Catalogue ‘Louis La Rooy, Happy Glass’. This catalogue is still available and contains many photographs of his unique work.
The title of the present exhibition ‘Joyous Glass’ refers to the effect of the artworks. The colors and their intensity create a joyous atmosphere, as a reference to optimism and reflecting the artists’ positive attitude towards life and the future. Especially in connection with the December festivities and the turn of the year.
Louis La Rooy is an artist in the forefront of his field and his pieces are technical feats in style, execution and dimension. After a career of 50 years working with glass, La Rooy is still fascinated by the medium and ever in search of new possibilities and techniques.
His glass streamers, roll ups, plates and trays sparkle beautifully in the alternating hues of our Curaçao light.
