Ria Houwen is one of the top artists in Curaçao. She recently had a successful solo in Mon Art Gallery, titled ‘Water II’. It is noteworthy that she is still teaching. But teaching art is something that she will continue doing. She is driven to pass on her expertise and skills for as long as she can. In the recent course art students were taught further control of their techniques. However, it was primarily a search for each student to develop an own, personal style.
Each painting shows us the students view on the painted subject. Hence the title ‘Ik leen mijn oog uit’ (Through my Eyes).
In his opening speech Sinuhe Oomen explained the set-up of the present exhibition. The artworks are namely not for sale, but can be reserved for a loan period of 3 months. Artworks made during a workshop or training are normally not available for purchase. Through this friendly gesture of Landhuis Bloemhof the public is still able to choose a painting and temporarily enjoy it at home or in the office.
The exhibition remains till July 5, 2014.
