Landhuis Bloemhof is one of the smaller country estates on the island. The main building dates back to 1735. Nowadays, it is a vibrant meeting place for all art lovers. Exhibitions, lectures, literary cafes, and creative workshops are ongoing in this inspiring ambiance surrounded by antique furniture.

The adjacent mangasina wing, which formerly contained the stable, barn and warehouses has been restored and remodeled in 2001. One side now houses Ex libris May-Max a library, archive and reading room dedicated to the arts. The former coach house was already transformed in the 1950’s when it became May Henriquez’ sculpture studio. Frozen in time it now displays a permanent exhibition of her artistic work and that of others who worked there with her.

In Dutch, the name Bloemhof literally means ‘flower garden’. The natural surroundings are also worth a visit. Indigenous plants and trees are labeled with their botanical names. Visitors enjoy the tranquil ambiance in the garden with benches, tables and facilities for painting, reading or just relaxing. Here, nestled in a grove, you will discover the bathhouse with its two stone bathtubs. Originally fed by an aqueduct from the adjoining well, this lovely spot recalls what must have been a pure luxury in this serene environment.
