Wilson Garcia (1938) was born in Curaçao and currently lives and works in the Netherlands. His career was formed in Curaçao where he worked at the Fine Arts Academy, for the teacher training college (Akademia Pedagogiko) and as a teacher in the secondary education. After his retirement he relocated to the Netherlands in 2000.
Gallery Alma Blou has announced in their press release that Wilson Garcia’s exhibition is also a tribute of the artist to the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the abolition of Slavery.
The last painting that Garcia has made for the exhibition is called ‘Tambu’ and shows a young, dancing couple. With this painting he wants acknowledge a dance that was originally performed by the slaves. Through the generations it has spread among different cultures.
