The presentation of Jan Gulmans’ book ’Beeldende Kunst van Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius en Sint Maarten’ (The Visual Arts of Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten’), took place in the sculpture garden of Landhuis Blauw, at Blue Bay Resort in Curaçao. The event was held on Monday, May 27, 2019.

The book is a compilation of 54 articles from the Antilliaans Dagblad, written by Jan Gulmans, business man and artcollector. The articles appeared in the newspaper between 2013 and 2018. During the presentation, Jan Gulmans commemorated his recently deceased wife Anke Gulmans. The book is dedicated to her. She was Jan’s support and anchor. The idea for the creation of the sculpture garden was conceived by Anke Gulmans.

The book is full of photos and is divided into 5 sections: Collecting and collections; The art scene of Aruba and Curaçao; Artists from Curaçao, Saba and Sint Maarten; Individual and shared heritage; Education. The book has an extensive bibliography and a register classified by ‘persons’ and ‘other search terms’.

The preface was written by the Governor of Curaçao, Her Excellency Lucille George-Wout. She describes it as a “handy book that enables young and old (yet once) to become acquainted with their own culture, which is described in a journalistic manner ”.

The presentation took place under great interest from artists and prominents of the local art world. The board of the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden Foundation was present and gave an insight into the plans of the foundation for the future. The board of consists of Ingenie Dammers, Ellen Spijkstra, Sepp Koster, Freddy Curiel and Jan Gulmans (president).
