A Little Forever

Visit Landhuis Bloemhof for the first solo exhibition of Adara Godschalk, titled:

A Little Forever.

Landhuis Bloemhof
May 24, 2024.
19:00 hrs.
Opening words by Adara’s sister, Daniek Godschalk.
The exhibition will remain till June 22, 2024.

The exhibition ‘A Little Forever’ consists of oil paintings and marks Adara Godschalk’s debut in Curaçao.

Dual background and life motto
Adara was born in Curaçao and has a dual cultural background. With a mother from Mexico and a Curaçao father, she learned the value of diversity from a young age. She finds that any reality or diversity we live in can be comforting as well as confronting.

“To survive, you have to be able to change. It is important to play with the world around us and create new ways of looking, thinking and acting. I believe that chaos and moments of uncertainty are important because this is when we learn to trust ourselves. I see them as defining moments that lead to growth and change,” says Adara.

The artist’s sometimes Surrealistic work goes beyond simply observing things as they are. In it, she explores how life and experiences can change a person.

Education and nominations
Adara Godschalk’s education began at Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) in Curaçao. It continued in the Netherlands with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at the Willem de Kooning Academy in 2021, with honorable mention. She worked as a teacher in performance art at the art academy in Utrecht (HKU) in January of 2020 and 2023. She was nominated for several recognitions, like the Buning Brongers Award and the Sluijters Award in 2022. In 2021, she was nominated for the Best of Graduates 2021 by Ron Mandos, an influential art gallery in Rotterdam.

Grant and exhibitions
In 2023, Adara received the ‘Artist Start’ grant from the Mondriaan Fund and exhibited at Art Rotterdam 2024 as part of it. Furthermore, her work was shown at Unfair23 in Amsterdam 2023, at Bijenkorf Rotterdam in collaboration with The Creative House event, and at KunstRAI in Amsterdam. She also contributed to Kunst aan de Dijk in Kortenhoef and the Johanna F. Zapata: Symbiosis exhibition at Buitenplaats Doornburg in Maarssen in 2022.
