Gwen Anderson Connecting the Pieces

The Curaçao Museum announces the opening of its next exhibition.

Connecting the Pieces
The new solo exhibition by Gwen Anderson.

Date: Thursday, May 21, 2026
Time: 19:00 to 21:00
Location: The Curaçao Museum

Pique assiette
With Connecting the Pieces, Gwen Anderson presents a new, bold and unexpected chapter in her artistic career, but still entirely continuous with her practice. Known for her layered, delicate and atmospheric works, Anderson now turns toward pique assiette, a mosaic technique in which broken porcelain, discarded tableware, found fragments and other materials are carefully reassembled into new forms.

Connecting the Pieces
In this exhibition, fragments become more than material. They become memory, movement, reflection, and transformation. What was once broken or overlooked is given new meaning. Through works such as her striking skull sculptures, of which the museum shows a glimpse on the invitation, Anderson invites you to look closely at the relationship between loss and renewal, fragility and strength, the fragment and the whole.

This is a rare opportunity in Curaçao to experience a solo exhibition centered on pique assiette, a technique that embraces irregularity, resourcefulness, and the expressive power of found materials. In Anderson’s hands, each shard carries its own history, yet together they form something entirely new.

Remarkable artworks
Connecting the Pieces rewards careful observation. A single glance will not reveal everything. Each return brings another detail, another connection, another surprise.

‘The Red Skull’ portrayed on the invitation is created from a water buffalo skull, porcelain, gold leaf, glass beads, and small ornaments, offering a glimpse of what awaits!

These remarkable artworks are bold, intricate, and full of unexpected detail.
They invite you closer, then reward your attention again and again.
