by Brigitte Wawoe and Helene van ‘t Hoen.

at Landhuis Bloemhof.
Opening words by the artists.
Brigitte Wawoe and Helene van ‘t Hoen found a magical place in the abandoned buildings of the old stone factory surrounding the Tafelberg, the tabletop mountain at Fuik. A place where you can easily separate the howling of the wind and the rolling of the waves before they merge.
Working there inspired the artworks exhibited in ‘Magisch oord’. Both artists express their inspiration and fascination with this place in their art form. Brigitte Wawoe in stone sculptures and mixed media paintings, Helene van ‘t Hoen in photographs and an installation.
Brigitte Wawoe has been working in this environment for years, and last year, she introduced Helene van ‘t Hoen to her source of inspiration. What started as an occasional visit to a dear friend in Curaçao culminated in a serious project. The location made such an impression on Helene that it was irresistible to work there. The series of photos and the installation in this exhibition resulted from her visit to Curaçao last March. The series is titled, ‘Al het andere is gelijk’ (All else is equal).
For Brigitte, the artworks on display are the form-shaped spirit of her dream world, her magical place.
The exhibition ‘Magisch Oord’ can be seen from March 23 to April 20, 2019, at Landhuis Bloemhof.
