Stella Kuiper (1949) was born in Curaçao. At the age of four she relocated with her family to the Netherlands. She started drawing at an early age and for her 7th birthday received a small box filled with painting and drawing materials. This gift opened a new world and a life long passion.
In 1988 she moved to Canada and has been living there ever since.
Mrs. Kuiper likes traveling. She has also taught painting courses in Jakarta. In Canada she worked closely with the popular pastel artist Cathy Carter. Kuiper herself works with pastel, acryl and aquarel. Her favorite objects are horses (equine art). She copies her objects with great attention for detail and calls her own style ‘precision executed snapshots’.
In Curaçao she let herself be inspired by the couleur locale and this resulted in a mixed exhibition. Works executed in different materials and styles, depicting cityscapes, wildlife on land and under water.
The exhibition is indeed a lovely series, by a lady with a great love for painting and a passion for getting even the smallest detail correctly represented on her canvas.
The Ritz hotel is located in the former Ritz ice-cream factory in Scharloo, a historic district of Willemstad with large city mansions. For 70 years Ritz was the largest ice-cream factory in Curaçao, with distribution through-out the Caribbean.
