Rignald Lakker
The Curaçao Museum announces its new exhibition.
‘INTERIOR’, by Rignald Lakker.
Opening, Thursday, October 19, 2023.
Time: 19:00 to 21:00.
At The Curaçao Museum.
The exhibition can be visited through Jan. 27, 2024.
The Curaçao Museum introduces woodcarver Rignald Lakker. Rather than starting with a design or concept, Rignald Lakker begins working on his sculptures, allowing the design to emerge from within the wood.
“According to Mr. Lakker, he just starts working, and the ‘design’ of the sculpture just appears, and comes from within, his interior and the interior of the piece of wood.”
Another noteworthy fact the museum mentions is that when Rignald Lakker begins working on a sculpture, he becomes completely absorbed. His mind, body, and soul go elsewhere, and he does not remember the sculpting process afterward.
The Curaçao Museum describes his woodworks as marvelous, captivating, and so ‘out of this world’ that they must be seen to be understood.
The works of Rignald Lakker were previously shown in 2021. First at the Museum and Sculpture Garden of Yubi Kirindongo and later in a solo show at Huize Scherpenheuvel.
