Luigi Pinedo. Father and Daughter.
The Curaçao Museum announces its next exhibition.
Luigi Pinedo. Father and Daughter.
Opening: Thursday, September 2, 2021.
From 19:00 to 21:00.
At the Curaçao Museum.
The museum states that the exhibition celebrates the move of one of Luigi Pinedo’s (1926-2007) most beautiful paintings, the ‘Simon Bolivar’ (1965), which Myrna Moreno has beautifully restored.
Karin Isidora – Pinedo, is Luigi Pinedo’s daughter. She thought the Curaçao Museum would make a nice home for the painting since it has more of her father’s artwork in its collection. The museum asked Karin to display her artworks alongside her father’s pieces.
The Curaçao Museum explains that Karin is no stranger to the art world. She started painting at a very young age as Luigi Pinedo used to take her and her sister Muriel to the Tafelberg area to paint. Luigi did plein air painting in the area of Jan Sofat. He would put Karin in charge of painting the sky, and her sister Muriel would be tasked with painting the ground. After they were done, he would finish painting the Tafelberg while they played.
Karin followed a couple of painting lessons Luigi gave. However, she found it challenging as Luigi pressured her to excel. Despite her efforts, she felt discouraged and unable to enjoy his classes fully.
After retiring in 2018, Karin finally pursued her passion for painting. She attended three painting workshops with renowned painters from abroad, organized by Arthur Oster. At first, she was very reluctant, but her husband encouraged her to prove to herself that she could paint. She also attended a painting course in London at the Sunny Art Academy, where she had private painting sessions with Nicolas Granger. Karin enjoys painting still lifes and landscapes.
The “Luigi Pinedo. Father and Daughter” exhibition will be on show until November 6, 2021.
