D-Bottle donates to Curaçao Art
On Nov. 7, Yvette Bakker and Lara Melkert of D-Bottle by D-Pacto donated NAf 1.250,- to our foundationCuraçao Art. In support of our mission to make the local artists and visual arts sector accessible. We will continue to receive funds from future sales of this D-Bottle flask.
One year ago, on Nov. 11, 2022, D-Bottle launched its new art bottle featuring the design of artist Garrick Marchena. The flask was introduced at DA Drugstore in Saliña, with a flask signing and a recital by spoken word artist Ralph Winedt. All artists featured on the Curaçao Art website were invited to attend the function.
Garrick Marchena is known for his murals that can be found throughout the island. Children and local wildlife are the main sources of inspiration for Garrick. With a sober but beautifully executed design for the D-Bottle flask of a young child with a Partawela (White-tailed Buzzard), Garrick depicts his connection to Curaçao, people and nature. The QR code on the bottle leads to a poem by Hemayel Martina (1990-2011) from his book of poetry, Ansestro Preokupá—Worried Ancestor.
In addition, D-Pacto announced that part of the proceeds would benefit Curaçao Art. Our foundation has been running a digital archive for ten years, www.curacao-art.com, which provides information about the visual arts in Curaçao. The site includes artist profiles, news about current exhibitions, background information, and lots of photo material.
Curaçao Art was founded in 2011 with financial support from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied and has been an essential link in the creative sector since the website’s launch.
The board of Curaçao Art is pleased with the donation and grateful to D-Bottle for their support and trust. The presentation took place during a meeting of Club 17 Curaçao held at TUI’s Zeelandia office. Curacao Art’s curator, Josée Thissen-Rojer, received the cheque from Lara Melkert and Yvette Bakker of D-Bottle by D-Pacto. Mrs. Zena Croes of DA Drogisterij & Parfumerie was present at the presentation.
