Marcel van Duijneveldt Solo
The Curaçao Museum has announced the opening of the solo exhibition
BOTANICAL DIASPORA
By the renowned visual artist Marcel van Duijneveldt.
Date: Thursday, January 25, 2024,
Time: 19:00 to 21:00,
Location: The Curaçao Museum.
Marcel van Duijneveldt has always been fascinated by cloudy skies, organic structures, landscapes, and exuberant flora. “I have painted clouds in all shapes and sizes for many years. However, for this exhibition, I focused specifically on the variation in our world of plants, ” says Marcel.
A tree pod from Ethiopia
This new series of paintings started with the painting of a tree pod from Ethiopia. Marcel received some seeds as a gift and cultivated them into plants that grew into large trees, of which their descendants have already spread further on the island.
The ‘Black Pearl’
Marcel then explains that the first painting, ‘Black Pearl’, sparked his curiosity about the origins of the other plants in his area. His further research showed that they hailed from all over the world, all descendants of a ‘mother plant’ from a distant and remote place, to ultimately plant their roots into the Curaçaoan soil: BOTANICAL DIASPORA.
My island, my home.
When Marcel arrived here years ago, he felt lured by the beautiful cloud formations in the sky.
While working on this new series, he realized that, just like the plants, he has also become rooted on this wonderful island he calls home.
Welcome to my garden!
Marcel pays tribute to the rich diversity in his garden with his new exhibition, BOTANICAL DIASPORA. With his gentle brushstrokes and delicate colors, he invites viewers to a new appreciation for the natural world.
The exhibition remains till March 23, 2024.
