Gino Martina first solo exhibition
Mongui Maduro Museum announces the first solo exhibition by Gino Martina,
Palu Palu
Opening on Thursday, November 28, 2025.
Time: 7 – 10 pm.
Location: Mongui Maduro Museum, Landhuis Rooi Catootje.
Opening words by Robbin Martina.
‘Palu Palu’ (wood wood) – in Papiamentu, repeating a word gives it emphasis, strength and feeling. It’s how we speak when something carries wight or meaning: a doubling that strengthens the word itself. In this way, ‘Palu Palu’ expresses a deeper, more rooted connection to the land.
Through local wood, sculptor Gino Martina tells stories of resilience, identity, and connection to the land. His sculptures carry the memory of place, labour, family, and the delicate balance between people and nature.
The title reflects a process of renewal – giving life to what was once discarded. ‘Palu Palu’ asks: how do we root ourselves again in a time when so much has been uprooted?
The exhibition remains till December 20, 2025.
