Curaçao, November 15, 2013.
A new publication ‘Contemporary Curaçao. A Caribbean Community’ was presented in Curaçao on October 31, 2013.
The book consists of 27 articles, written by local experts on topics related to history, justice, architecture, culture, art, education and literature. The three editors Ieteke Witteveen, Wim Kamps and Guido Rojer jr., are board members of Fundashon Kultura i Desaroyo (Foundation Culture and Development). This foundation strives to increase the awareness for culture through publications and panel discussions.
.
The publication is interesting for the local art world because art historian Jennifer Smit has contributed a text on the visual arts, and also since most of the illustrations are images of artworks by Curaçao visual artists. Photographer Prince Victor is responsible for the images of Curacao, both on the cover and as illustrations in the book.
The book has images of artworks by the following Curaçao artists:
Herman van Bergen, Hortence Brouwn, Nelson Carrilho, Ariadne Faries, Ria Houwen, Yubi Kirindongo, Tirzo Martha, Tony Monsanto, Maximaliano Nepomuceno, Nel Simon, Ellen Spijkstra and Prince Victor.
