Opening words by Verele Engels.
Philippe Zanolino dedicates his exhibition Ride On… to Marcel Duchamp (France, 1887 – US, 1968) an artists who helped define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts during the opening decades of the twentieth century. He was in favor of a more intellectual, concept-driven approach to art-making and viewing.
Duchamp’s vision that art should be an expression of the mind rather than the eye or the hand, spoke to Minimalists and Conceptual artists alike. Additionally, for Philippe we can say that for him art is also an expression of the soul.
Philippe’s sculpture made of a beautiful Curaçao mahogany wood with a wheel on top is much more than Duchamp’s ready-made Bicycle Wheel. The dedication to the art and the respect for nature can be felt completely in this art work. His paintings complete the full experience of this exhibition.
Ride On… will remain on display until July 1, 2016.
