Trickle. A group exhibition
From June 1st to 29th, 2019:’Trickle’ features artworks by Ailsa B. Anastatia, Christy Beaujon, Avantia Damberg and Rose Ann Ignacio.
Discipline, consistency, determination, passion and creativity. These are the connecting factors that the four female artists of the exhibition ‘Trickle’ have in common, says Landhuis Bloemhof in their press release.
‘Trickle’ shows the individual paths these artists have taken to break through in the art world. The title refers to water, that always finds its way and with time, eventually penetrates everywhere. It is used as a metaphor, for the artistry of the four artists. Water is incorporated as a concept in the photos, the acrylic and mixed media paintings and the installations in this exhibition.
Ailsa B. Anastatia (Curaçao,1978) attended the Academy for Visual Education in Tilburg, the Netherlands from 1997 to 2001. After graduating, she enrolled at the Amsterdam School of the Arts in 2001. Three years later she received her diploma as a teacher of Visual Arts and Design (2004).
She is a conceptual artist and often approaches her themes spiritually. Her works are made in series and her main theme is space. Space confirms existence, because space determines form. Space is divided into separate parts by means of colors and segments. Her technique varies depending on the vision she wants to convey.
Christy Beaujon (Aruba, 1983) graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in the Netherlands, in 2013, with a focus on photography. That same year, her work was purchased by the House of Representatives for one of the meeting rooms. ‘Trickle’ is her first exhibition in Curaçao.
Avantia Damberg (Leeuwarden, 1977) graduated in 2001 in Marketing Management from the HEAO Fontys in Eindhoven and in 2007 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in Audiovisual Arts. Her career as a visual artist started in 2008. She got off to a great start here on the island with the support of established artists such as Tirzo Martha and curator Jennifer Smit. Exhibitions in Amsterdam, Paris, Tallinn, Madrid, Mexico City, Berlin, Durham and Miami followed. Avantia prefers to exhibit locally as much as possible, making Curaçao her new center of contemporary art. Avantia uses video, sculpture, animation and installations and also likes to work with texts.
Rose Ann Ignacio (Curaçao, 1991) has been painting since childhood and recently started working as a full-time artist. Using acrylic, she incorporates bold and daring elements into her pieces. Through her bold use of color the lines between ambiguous and alluring themes become blurred.
