Avantia Damberg solo exhibition
The Curaçao Museum is presenting the solo exhibition
‘De Aprilmoorden’ (The April murders)
by Avantia Damberg.
Opening on Wednesday April 20, 2022
At 7 PM.
Through 15 beautiful and carefully elaborated porcelain vases, Avantia Damberg shares the scandalous historical event ‘The April murders’. The solo of Avantia is based on the history and stories of the fifteen Chinese workers whom tragically lost their lives, eighty years ago in Curaçao on April 20, 1942.
The crafting of these exceptional vases came to realization last year (2021) in Friesland, the Netherlands, with support of the Mondriaan Fonds. First the vases participated in the ‘Kunstroute Open Stal Oldeberkoop’ exhibition in Friesland. This event took place from July 17 till August 15, 2021.
Avantia is now exhibiting her striking series in Curaçao, in the cultural historic museum in Willemstad. Visit the solo exhibition ‘De Aprilmoorden’ and let Avantia tell you more about the history behind the vases and their different meanings.
This exhibition will be on show till June 15, 2022 and has been made possible with the support of Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied, Mondriaan fonds and The Curaçao Museum.
