Sale of artworks from a beautiful private art collection, started in the 80’s. The collection consists of paintings and sculptures by renowned local artists like José Maria Capricorne, Boy Namias de Crasto, Clemens Briels, Wim Dieleman, Tony Monsanto, Norva Sling and more.

José Maria Capricorne (1932) was born in Curaçao. His colorful paintings are loved for their personal imagery and recurrent themes. After finishing his education at the graphic school in Amsterdam in 1958, he started his career as a visual artist and graphic designer. He returned to Curaçao in 1968 and became actively involved with the local art academy, Akademia di Arte. Capricorne became director in 1972. Art historian Jennifer Smit calls him the ‘driving force behind the Curaçao Academy during the Seventies and Eighties. Under his direction the emphasis was placed on stimulating local creativity and developing de Dutch Antillean identity, free from Dutch influence.’
Capricorne relocated to the Netherlands in 1993, and is still active as a visual artist.
Boy Namias de Crasto left Curaçao in 1956 for the Netherlands. He trained at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, followed by the Art Academy in Amersfoort. Working as a graphic designer and art teacher he developed as a multi talented visual artist creating paintings, sculptures, etchings and Calligraphy. His roots are found in his use of earth tones, shades of blue and a distinctive harmonious lighting.
Norva Sling (1947) was born in Curaçao. Her artistic career started in 1972 when she was introduced to clay for the first time, at which moment a life-long fascination began. Norva Sling describes it as ‘love at first sight’. She is self-taught and uses her talent to create artworks from clay and stone. Her inspiration comes from life, inner experiences and nature. Her artworks exude the loving nature with which she creates, emphasizing the playfulness of life.
Clemens Briels (1946) was born in the Netherlands. In 1965 het started at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, intend on becoming a visual artist. However, through circumstances, he ended up in the world of advertising and instead became a successful Art director. At the age of 46 he decides to change his career and still pursue his dream to become a visual artist. At present he is a successful Dutch artist, appreciated for his uniquely colorful paintings, sculptures and prints.
Wim Dieleman (1927) was born in the Netherlands and trained in Amsterdam at the national academy. In the Sixties and Seventies he lived in Curaçao, teaching art and art history at the high school Peter Stuyvesant College. He is also an illustrator, painter and designer. In his work he used to apply materials, found in nature. Wim Dieleman actively supported local artists like Ocalia and Capricorne in their artistic career.
Loke m’a laga’tras also features work by Tony Monsanto (1946-2014), Elis Juliana, Anna Oltheten, Roland Richardson, Sam Parabirsingh (1943-2003) and Paul Chang. It is an unique opportunity to view and acquire rare and much desired art pieces.
The exhibition remains till July 4, 2015.
