Norva Sling in Museum Beelden aan Zee
From November 2, 2017 to January 7, 2018, museum Beelden aan Zee shows the first solo exhibition of Norva Sling titled:
Norva Sling. Shapes of Love.
Norva Sling was born on November 12, 1947 un the zodiac sign of Scorpio in Curaçao. Norva is autodidact and her career as a ceramic sculptor started in 1972. She lives alternately in Curaçao and in the Netherlands. She’ll summarise her work and spirit in the striking words: “As an artist I am especially inspired by nature, her cycle of birth and death. I like working with curves, smoothly stretched convex and hollow shapes, kneaded with cool, damp clay.”
She is a celebrated artist in Curaçao and the Netherlands alike. Norva has a special gift to share deeply intimate emotions and occurrences in her art. Sometimes with humour and other times with shocking honesty. Her art touches your heart because she is a woman, mother, wife or just a human being reaching out to us, sharing her experiences, feelings and wisdom like only a caring person can.
The exhibition consists of 30 sculptures, which together provide a good overview of the artist’s oeuvre. The sculptures vary from portraits of women to animal figures. Her female figures are often represented in relation to fertility, birth and pregnancy.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue: Norva Sling. Shapes of Love, written by Felix de Rooy and Jennifer Smit (The Hague, museum Beelden aan Zee, 2017).
