Exhibition Abath & Zanolino
Landhuis Bloemhof is excited to invite you to the opening of
ABATH & ZANOLINO
Agugust 25th, 2018
at 7 PM.
Giovanni Abath and Giovani Zanolino will share the space in the upcoming exhibition at Landhuis Bloemhof. Yes, the two Gio’s in one exhibition! Even though they share the same first name, their artworks are entirely different, and both are thought-provoking.
Giovanni Abath (1974) is a self-taught artist who has been working at the refinery for 27 years. He is known for his sculptures and installations made with stainless steel. He designed the piece History in Motion for the celebration of the ‘Dia di Bandera’ (Flag Day) at Brionplein in Willemstad on July 2, 2018. Besides working with steel, Abath also uses foam, wood, and iron materials. This is his first gallery exhibition.
Giovani Zanolino (1986) was born in France and grew up in Curaçao since his early childhood. At age nineteen, he decided to become an artist. He started this journey at the art academy of Zwolle, followed by the Limoges University in France and a mentorship with his father, Philippe Zanolino, a renowned local artist. After exploring various art forms and materials, he combines digital techniques to create his work. He will be showing collages, mixed media and digitally processed paintings.
The loves in their lives, Annemiek van Rooij and Angelica Abath-Delgado will share with us during the opening what it’s like to be in love with and share their life with these artists.
The exhibition ‘ABATH & ZANOLINO‘ is on view from August 25th till September 29th, 2018.
Meet the Gio’s
Saturday morning, September 8, 2018, you are cordially invited to meet Giovanni Abath and Giovani Zanolino between 10 AM and 12 PM in Landhuis Bloemhof. Did you miss the opening, but do you still want to experience a special happening in the presence of the artists? Take a picture and ask about their inspiration, technique, or passion. Giovanni Abath will be present for this special meet and greet.
Giovani Zanolino is in the Netherlands for a special project with the AFAS Experience Center.
Art theft!
During the night of the 21st to the 22nd of September, two artworks were taken from the premises of Landhuis Bloemhof. ‘Rei di Shelu’ by Giovanni Abath and the piece ‘Eye See I’ by Giovani Zanolino.
The artwork by Abath is a stainless steel bird on wood, measuring 70 x 70 x 30 cm. It was displayed outside. The artwork by Giovani Zanolino is a print of an eye on a mirror in an oval-shaped, gold-colored frame measuring 43 x 53 cm. It was on display in the front gallery.
The management of Landhuis Bloemhof hopes for the artworks to be returned undamaged. If anyone is offered these artworks, please note that they were stolen, and the artist was robbed of something he created. It is unfortunate as these are two young artists who are working so hard for themselves and the benefit of the island.
Curaçao Art sincerely hopes that the artworks will re-emerge and be returned to the artists.
Kosecha Kultural
Both artists will be present during Kosecha Kultural, organized by Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied, on September 28 and 29, 2018.
