Pop up art exhibitions in Kaya Kaya Street Party in December 2019
The second edition of the Kaya Kaya street festival, in 2019, took place on December 21, 2019. The festival takes place in the Ser’i Otrobanda district. Each time another part of Otrobanda is featured for the festival.
The festival extended over the entire area between Quintastraat and Hoogstraat, with also activities in it’s various alleys. The entrance was located on the De Rouvillestraat. From Keizershof, visitors could continue to Van Lennepstraat and then arrive via Venusstraat at the foot of the Juliana Bridge, with a view over the St. Anna Bay.
The initiators of the street festival are Clayton Lasten, Kurt Schoop and Raygen Zuiverloon. They organize the festival together with Fundashon Ser’i Otrobanda and the local residents. The goal is to give the neighborhood a boost, promote unity, and in short, give it an upgrade.
The festival had something for everyone: food, drinks, musical performances, sales of items such as clothing, jewelry and headscarves, pop-up art exhibitions, new sculptures and murals, street culture, dancing, and above all the opportunity to meet each other.
Various artists organized so-called pop-up exhibitions on the street, in houses or empty buildings. Participants in the art-related activities include: Gwen Anderson, Carlos Better, Carlos Blaaker, Monique Harbers, Hilma Koelman, Viangelo Lomp, Michelle Mesker, Pito Polo, Marcel Truyens, Carlo Wallé, and Quirine Guato & friends in Gallery 7.
