Three Caribbean Artists

For Gallery Alma Blou the year 2020 starts with a unique event. Monique van Herksen is presenting the book ‘Three Caribbean Artists’.

The artists portrayed in the book are: José Maria Capricorne, Nelson Carrilho and Philippe Zanolino. The book is written by Susan Wilczak (USA) and Marianne de Tolentino (Santo Domingo). Monique Herksen wrote a preface and is responsible for the final editing and the publication.

The book is dedicated to Monique Herksen’s late mother, to whom she promised to write a book about these three artists: Nelson Carrilho, José Maria Capricorne, and Philippe Zanolino. Her mother, Irene Herksen (1939-2003), was an art teacher in Curaçao. Of the many artists she met, she formed a special bond with these tree. She met each of them at different moments in her life. Their views and philosophies guided and inspired her profoundly as a teacher and person. With this book Monique honors the pledge to her mother.

The presentation of the book will be accompanied by an exhibition of artworks by these three distinguished local artists.

The exhibition will open Saturday, January 11, 2020.

Art and wine event
An ‘art and wine event ‘will be held on January 8, from 19.00 – 21.00 hours. It is a one of a kind event and participants will also have a sneak peak at the upcoming exhibition.

Co author Susan Wilzack, art historian and international curator is traveling from her home town Michigan, USA, to be in Curaçao for the event. Not only for the book signing, as she will also give a presentation about art appreciation during a wine and art event, organized by Gallery Alma Blou.

Monique van Herksen, born and raised in Curaçao, is an international tax lawyer, based in the Netherlands. She has many legal publications to her name, and is joining Susan Wilczak with a presentation about art collecting.
