Martie Genger is well-known as a visual artist, poet, and writer. She has lived in Curaçao since 1969, with an interruption of eleven years in Costa Rica, where she continued her work as a visual artist. In 2021, Martie was one of the artists participating in the jubilee exhibition of Gallery Alma Blou, ‘Art Feeds the Soul’. This year (2022), The Curaçao Museum is bringing an ode to Martie Genger.
The Curaçao Museum introduces Martie Genger as a “multi-talented, sharp-witted, beautiful-strong-but-also-not-afraid-to-show-you-her-vulnerability’ lady who has allowed us to make her take over our Museum. We say to make her because next to all of the above-mentioned, Martie Genger is also modest: a unique and complex combination, also reflected in her art.”
Everything Martie creates has reason, motive, or emotion. Her complete oeuvre is richly layered and exudes the wisdom of more profound insight. Martie pours her heart and soul into every one of her works of art. The Museum will be filled entirely, from top to bottom, with almost all of Martie’s pieces. The artworks will be displayed in a unique manner in between the permanent collection.
The exhibition is curated by board member Mariëtte Arkenbout-van Soesbergen and organized together with art handler Pedro Angela. Pedro Angela has years of experience working at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam and has vast experience in the international art scene.
