About the two artists
There is a thirty-year age gap between painter Richard Doest and photographer Carlo Wallé. Both create art from their distinct perspectives, yet they find common ground in a shared passion for capturing what lies beneath the surface.
Richard Doest, now in his 80s, works with water-soluble oil paints. His work is known for its deep connection to Curaçao, often depicting traditional landscapes or scenes, and showing a particular sensitivity in his portrayal of women. His paintings arise from emotion, memory, and life experience.
Carlo Wallé, in his 50s, has a background in photography shaped by both discipline and experimentation. During his time in the military, he had the opportunity to work with various cameras, laying the foundation for his craft. Later, in the marketing world, he refined his technique through food photography. In this exhibition, he focuses on abstraction, using light and shadow to create new architectural compositions.
Where Doest’s work is intuitive and emotional, Wallé’s is deliberate and structured. Together, they form a powerful contrast that defines the core of Emotion/Structure. With this exhibition, the artists demonstrate how different creative approaches and techniques can capture the same visual essence.
