New publication on Suzanne Perlman

On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, a special event dedicated to visual artist Suzanne Perlman will take place at the Mongui Maduro Library. Anyone who has ever visited the Mongui Maduro Library has seen Suzanne Perlman’s beautiful painting ‘Kelki na boka’ (Chalice to the Lips) from 1975, in the study area.
Suzanne Perlman (1922-2020) lived in Curaçao from 1940 to 1990. The island inspired much of her oeuvre. She captured daily life of Curaçao expressively and colorfully in cityscapes, street vendors, domino players, local dance scenes, as well as more intimate domestic scenes and nudes. Although Suzanne was incredibly productive in her long life, her work remained relatively unknown. That is now changing, with an exhibition currently in Singer Laren in the Netherlands, and a new book that presents her complete oeuvre: Suzanne Perlman (2026) published by SKIRA.
On April 28, we open our doors at 6 pm, for guests to enjoy the special exhibition set up for this event, meet grandson and author Matthew Perlman, and talk to the local experts who contributed to the book: art historian Josée Thissen-Rojer and cultural historian Margo Groenewoud. At 7 pm we gather at the rooftop terrace for a presentation by the authors, followed by a Q&A with our moderator and the official baptism of the book.
The pop-up exhibition remains till May 29th, 2026.
