Sint Maarten: Afro Karibe Festival
AFKA
AFKA Afro Karibe Festival is a new, four-day cultural festival, taking place in Sint Maarten and centered on reshaping Caribbean Legacy through art, history and community engagement. It positions itself not just as a festival, but as a movement that invites all communities in the Caribbean to connect with a shared history in an inclusive and respectful way.
Visual Arts
15 Caribbean visual artists will focus on historical depth, dignity, and the influence of slavery and migration on our cultural identity. Participating artists from Curacao are Avantia Damberg, Kerr de Lanooi and Morgaine Parris.
Cultural Village
AFKA is also a cultural village. Enjoy a wide range of complimentary workshops and interactive experiences for both kids and adults, from mastering the graceful Punum dance and exploring traditional Batik fabric art to discovering the secrets of Ayurvedic haircare and much, much more.
Performances
AFKA performance is headlined by Izaline Calister, who masterfully blends the vibrant Calypso roots of Curaçao with the sophistication of jazz. Drawing inspiration from the island’s rhythms, dances, and traditional songs, she reimagines these influences through her own contemporary compositions, shaping a unique musical identity that resonates across cultures.
