Exhibition ‘Echt Paar’ in Bloemhof (2019)
The art exhibition ‘Echt Paar. Verbonden in Passie.’ (Authentic Couple. Connected by passion.), with sculptures and ceramics by the artistic couple Marjon Wegman and Rien te Hennepe was opened September 14, 2019. With opening words by Andrey Pichardo. Landhuis Bloemhof showed how the two artists connect to each other and their art.
Connected by passion
Marjon and Rien got married in 2002. They not only found each other as partners, but also as artists.
Sometimes the influence of one can be seen in the work of the other. A stone of the ‘Tafelberg’, found by Rien, can appear in Marjon’s work. Sometimes Rien uses Marjon’s ceramics in his sculptures.
Curacao is without doubt their main source of inspiration. Marjon is drawn to the warm Caribbean colors. Rien is more attracted to the subtle natural color combinations he encounters in Curacao’s table top mountain, the ‘Tafelberg’.
Marjon Wegman, was born and raised in Curaçao. Her family returned to the Netherlands when she was 15. She studied to become a teacher in needle-crafts. Her current art form is all about ceramics and mosaics.
Rien te Hennepe was born in the Netherlands in 1950. After a long career in the health care sector he turned to the arts. The Tafelberg in Curacao with its beautiful crystals and stones are the inspiration for his sculptures.
